How To Build a Consultant

Our own in house “How to Build a Consultant™” programme is designed to support junior team members such as Account Executives and Account Managers to accelerate their development to director level.

Typically, we run this programme over 9-12 months supported with targeted one-to-one executive coaching. The programme is an exciting journey for the cohort and is rewarded with CPD credits.

The How to Build a Consultant™ programme is designed to empower your team with the essential soft skills required to excel, specifically:

Phase 1 - Managing Self

  • Understanding others
    We use personality profiling tools such as Insights or DiSC to support the participants to be aware of, and to adapt, their personal style to connect better with others, both internally and clients. Learn more about DiSC and other profiling tools we use.

  • Time and attention management
    Participants learn earn how to maximize your focus without draining their energy or life.

Phase 2 - Collaboration With Others

  • Productive conflict
    How to disagree well and not be afraid of an emotional reaction from your client or colleague. Learn more about our Productive Conflict module.

  • Feedback
    How and why to give regular and well-structured feedback. See our Delivering & Receiving Feedback section.

  • Coaching & Delegation
    Empowering others in the most effective way possible.

Phase 3 - Building Business

  • Consultancy led conversations
    How to elevate a conversation from the “do for me” level (simply accepting a request from a client for example) to the “think for me” level (turning a direct request for an action into a conversation about the underlying issues).  

  • Consultancy led sales
    How to make a sales conversation more of a consultancy experience than a “pushy” sales experience.  We address fears about selling, discussing money and issues to raise when upselling or speaking to prospects.

  • Persuasive Presentations
    A structured approach to create and deliver presentations that inspire the audience to take the action you are advocating. This includes a methodology for deciding what to omit from your presentations and how to create more impactful slides.  

The full “How To Build a Consultant” programme is highly practical. Business role play using bespoke scenarios  brings it alive, builds confidence and the all-important behavioural muscle memory.
